Wow, 2006 was my last entry. I guess it's been a while! I almost forgot I had this blog. Anyway, I'm back making bento lunches after a long hiatus. I've ordered a couple of bento boxes and I'm just waiting for them to arrive. Right now I am using my Dollar Tree Hello Kitty boxes and a Sugarbunnies airtight box that I just received this week.
Today's lunch had strawberries, cucumbers and red bell pepper in the top tier, and chicken fingers and a rice & vegetable ball (still frozen in the picture) in the bottom tier plus a little bottle of sesame dressing for the veggies.
I also brought a breakfast and a snack since I work 10 hour days. The pink box had cereal and raisins, and the bottom snack box had a banana peanut butter honey roll-up and almonds, and also a container of brown sugar for the strawberries. Not pictured was my bottle of milk. I didn't even eat the almonds, this was plenty of food for me today. Yesterday, I was starving by 3PM. I didn't take a photo yesterday, but I had made cucumber cream cheese sandwiches on mini cocktail bread, and also had some shrimp, and pretty much the same veggies as today. Not enough protein I guess? Anyway, I was paranoid today so I packed a little more.

Catching Up
Here is last Friday's lunch, the 19th. I've been a bit lazy the last few days, but I still am taking pictures, at least! I had shrimp gyoza, cucumber salad, strawberries, and babybel cheese and mini crackers. Boy stays home on Fridays because it's Daddy's day off, so no bento needed for him.
Monday I had a leftover brat with mustard in a foil cup for dipping. We had a cookout on Sunday at the inlaws. Most people have cookouts next weekend, but we just have to be different. Also I had red bell pepper strips, greek yogurt with strawberries and honey, and triscuit knockoffs with cream cheese and olive tapenade for spreading. It was too much food for lunch and I saved the crackers and spread for a snack.
Boy had a leftover hot dog, vanana yogurt with blueberries, red peppers with dip, and cereal snack mix. He seemed to have eaten everything but the yogurt.
And finally, we catch up to today. I had a leftover hamburger from the same cookout, corn cut from the cob (yes, also from cookout), and greek yogurt with blueberries. In the fourth container is what ended up as my snack: small soy sauce crackers, a mini banana, and half a Clif nectar bar.
Since there were no more leftover hotdogs, boy got the next best thing, vienna sausages. I included barbecue dipping sauce, left over from those infernal chicken mcnuggets the other day. More yogurt and blueberries. Some soy sauce crackers for him too, plus a mini banana and the other half of the nectar bar. He ate everything today except 2 sausages and the yogurt. I guess I'm wasting my time with the yogurt.

Pizza Lunch Today
No bento for me today, we had a pizza lunch buffet at work. I probably ate 80 million calories, but it was reasonably good.
Boy's lunch was vanana yogurt, cereal snack mix, brown rice, carrots, fruit leather and vienna sausages. None of which he ate, because granny took him to McDonald's instead. She said that she forgot to take the lunchbox when they went out shopping. So I guess he has lunch all ready for tomorrow. Now I don't mind McDonald's for an occasional treat, but daddy just bought him some chicken mcnuggets last night! Boy loves them, of course. Sometimes I despair of the child ever eating a nutritious meal.

Quiche Lorraine
Last night I made quiche, with bacon, onions and swiss. I had bought frozen pie crusts, because I've never made a scratch pie crust in my life. The ones I bought were extremely shallow. I was picturing a nice deep quiche, but they were so shallow I had to make 2 short quiches.
I also had the eternal cucumber salad (I've been eating this stuff all week and I only used 2 cucumbers!), vanana yogurt, and crackers, cheese and strawberries. I included a piece of candy which I could only guess was milk flavored. I couldn't read anything on the label, but there was a picture of a cow! It did turn out to be a "milky" chewy candy.
Boy's lunch also contained quiche, which he didn't eat. Also he got cheese slices and strawberries, carrots and ranch dip, and cereal snack mix with some tiny savory crackers mixed in. He ate everything but the carrots. He never eats them but I keep packing them for him. Eventually, someday....

Sweet & Garlicky Chicken
My lunch today included grilled chicken and red potatoes from last night's dinner. The chicken was grilled on my George Foreman knockoff grill, coated with a mixture of olive oil, garlic, honey and maple syrup. It turned out very good, although very pungent when I opened up Mr. Bento at lunch. All the garlic.
Also there was more cucumber salad, more kugel, and more matzo ball soup. I stuck some "Flower's Kiss Candy" in there too, and they were peach flavored as far as I can guess.
Boy's lunch had carrot sticks, chopped up cheese stick, kugel, vanana yogurt, and cereal snack mix with banana crisps. He ate all the mix and half the kugel. The child eats like a bird, but I'm hoping that offering him the variety every day will eventually entice him to eat more. I gave him diluted apple juice in the bottle, he drank that at some point. We also always pack him some organic milk in a sippy cup. He loves his milk, at least.

My Debut Mr. Bento Lunch
Today's lunch was a super tender piece of steak, with chile mashed potatoes and broccoli, from Abuelo's Mexican restaurant. It's the remains of my Mother's Day dinner. Since I filled up on chips and salsa, I could only eat half my entree. The steak had a mushroom sauce and was served on a puff pastry. Shhh...I also had dessert even though I didn't finish my dinner, tres leches cake. You'll notice none of the dessert is left over.
In the other containers are matzo ball soup, noodle kugel and cucumber salad. I made big batches of all three of these, so I'm sure I'll have them several times this week. Next to the kugel is a Cashew Roca and a ginger chew.
In related news, Boy's Laptop Lunchbox arrived today. Stay tuned for tomorrow's maiden lunch in it.

Mr. Bento Arrives
I gotta say, my first impression of Mr. Bento was how small he is! (Nothing personal, Mr. B) Behind Mr. is a nifty lunch bag that I found at a garage sale last weekend. I was worried that Mr. B wouldn't fit in it. But my fears were unfounded. He's even got spare room in there for other containers, as long as they're tall and skinny.
So, I've grocery shopped, menu planned and washed out Mr. Bento and he's all ready to use on Monday. I hope Boy's Laptop Lunchbox shows up very soon!
